Swimming Gala

On Friday afternoon Mount Charles took part in the St. Austell Schools Gala. It was such an exciting afternoon, great atmosphere and brilliant to watch. Mount Charles, led by Dave Behennah, won the gala for the 18th consecutive year – what an incredible achievement.  Mr. B. has been a real driving force behind quality swimming at Mount Charles and I just wanted to thank him on behalf of the school community!

St. Austell Primary Schools Swimming Gala – Friday 16th June at Polkyth Leisure Centre

On Friday 16th our A team won the St.Austell Schools Gala for the 18th consecutive year. Out of 13 races on the day (all team relays) we managed 9 x 1st places, 3 x 2nd’s and 1 x 3rd, which meant we scored 60 points, ten points clear of the second placed school. It was very exciting on poolside and our swimmers were superb on the day recording ten season best times as all the practice galas and training sessions throughout the year paid dividends. Congratulations to all the team and a special mention to Daisy and Dylan, our reserves, who provided cover just in case of injury/illness on poolside. A big thank you to Dave Howatt and St.Austell Sharks Swimming Club who organised the event/provided the officials and paid for the medals and certificates, as usual the competition ran very smoothly. Many thanks to those parents who squeezed into the cafeteria/viewing area to watch the team perform and support the children at the presentation afterwards. Thanks also to the adults who helped on poolside/supported the team: Helen Welland, Mrs.Meens, Miss Nile, Mrs.Gray, Claire Westaway, Peta Ashcroft, Mrs.Bunting and Mrs.Behennah. Colin Williams was officiating on Friday but I would like to thank him for his voluntary work throughout the year helping to teach/coach our children. Thank you and well done to Mrs Drew (parent) and Helen Welland (coach), who swam in the adults/parents race at the end for Mount Charles.

On a personal note I’m handing over the running of the Speed Swimming and team to Miss Nile but will be around to help with training and galas as required. I would like to thank all parents from the past and present for the support they have given to the Speed Swimming Club and gala teams over the many years that I’ve been in charge.

The boys were a credit to the school and now go onto the County Finals on Monday 10th July (venue to be confirmed). Many thanks to Jake’s Gran and Grandad for their support.
