GALA REPORT

On Friday 12th May our Speed swimmers competed against Charlestown and Sandy Hill in a friendly gala at Polkyth. Out of the 13 races on the day our A team managed to win 10; a very encouraging result. Well done to the B and C teams who also swam really well and gained valuable competitive experience. Many thanks to our band of volunteers, who give up their time to help the children: Helen Welland, Mrs.Meens, Mrs.Gray, Colin Williams and Peta Ashcroft. We now look forward to the St.Austell Schools Gala on Friday 16th June at Polkyth (1:30 – 3pm), followed by the Cornwall Games Finals gala at Bude on Friday 30th June (10 am – 4 pm).

BIATHLON REPORT

On Friday 21st April six of our children took part in a Biathlon competition at Cornwall Schools Spring Games in Truro. They had to swim 200 metres and run 1500 metres with both times added together at the end and then positions overall were decided. The children were welcomed and given an inspiring speech by a GB Paralympic  Triathlete, David Hill, who had competed in Rio. All of the children received a Spring Games t shirt.  Our pupils gave a hundred percent and you could not fault their effort on the day. A special mention for George in year 6 who finished 4th in Cornwall – top effort! We didn’t get anyone in the top three this year however; the standard of competition was high and there were children from all over Cornwall taking part from 28 different schools.

Many thanks to Mrs.Meens for helping with supervision and Mrs.V.Nile and Mrs.Murphy for their help and support.

POLTAIR TOUCH RUGBY TOURNAMENT

On Thursday 4th May our A team took part in a touch rugby tournament along with five other St.Austell schools using modified rugby league rules. All the matches were closely contested and low scoring as the pitches were quite narrow. Representatives from the Cornish Rebels Rugby League team helped referee on the day. Our pupils played really well in warm conditions and managed to win three games, draw one and lose one, which meant we finished equal second overall and qualified for the next stage (Mid Cornwall finals) later in the month. Many thanks to Mrs.Meens for helping with supervision and Mrs.M.Nile for her support.
