Basketball qualifier at Treviglas 29.03.17
Team: Lilyah, George, Jasmine, Tineasha, Zakk, Finlay, James and Kieran
On Wednesday 29th March, we went to Treviglas for the second round of the Cornwall Games Basketball Tournament. The team got off to a confident start with some fantastic team work and technique. There were some trickier rules to follow this time and the referees weren’t picking up on some of the contact, meaning that the team had to keep their heads up and carry on playing by the correct rules.
The scores were as follows:
Grampound 4 – 10 Mount Charles
Newquay Junior Academy 10 – 4 Mount Charles
Bishop Bronescombe 2 – 4 Mount Charles
Goonhavern 6 – 10 Mount Charles
We won three matches and only lost one, meaning that we have qualified for the final round of the Cornwall Games in Bude! I was really impressed with their attitudes and how well they played, even when some teams weren’t playing very fairly.
Netball tournament 28.03.17
On Tuesday 28th March, the A team netball squad went to St. Mewan to play the end of season netball tournament at St Mewan School. This was also the A team’s last netball tournament of the year. There were 7 other schools at the tournament and it was separated into two leagues with the top two teams of each league going into the semi-final. In our league we had to play St. Mewan A, St. Mewan B and Pondhu. Our first match was against St. Mewan A, which unfortunately we lost. However, we won the next two games against Pondhu and St Mewan B. This meant that we went into the semi-final.
In the semi-final we had to play the winners of the other league: Carclaze (who came first in our weekly league). The A team went into the game thinking they weren’t going to win, but they didn’t let that get to them and within no time we were ahead of them by a few goals. The end score was 9-6 to us and it was a well-deserved win! It was the best that I have seen them play all season!
This win meant that we were through to the final where we had to play St. Mewan A again. Unfortunately they managed to beat us once more. The whole team played extremely well and we were thrilled to come 2nd out of 8 teams and receive silver medals.
The A team netball squad consisted of Gracie, George, Jude, Lilyah, Lizzy, Jasmine and Rodrigo.
