Basketball Tournament at Poltair 19.01.17
Team: Lilyah, George, Rodrigo, Jasmine, Tineasha, Zakk, Finlay and Kieran
On Thursday, we went to Poltair for the Cornwall Games Basketball Tournament. The team got off to a fantastic start with some amazing team work and technique. There were some tricky teams to play against, but they kept their heads up, cheered each other on and scored some fantastic goals.
The scores were as follows:
Sandy Hill 6 – 16 Mount Charles
Pondhu 2 – 14 Mount Charles
St. Mewan 2 – 12 Mount Charles
Bishop Bronescombe 10 – 8 Mount Charles
Charlestown 2 – 10 Mount Charles
We won four matches and only lost one, meaning that we have qualified for the next round of the Cornwall Games! We were the top scoring team and George even managed to get a trophy for the top shooter out of all six schools!
Swimming Gala Report
On Friday 20th January Mount Charles swam against Roselyon School at Polkyth. All of the speed swimmers were involved so we entered up to three teams in each race. Out of the thirteen races on the day Mount Charles won eleven, with our B team managing to win the last race of the day, a six person Cannon by a fingertip touch from our A team! Many thanks to Mrs.Gray who managed the C team, Mrs.Meens who ran the B team, Colin Williams acting as starter with Helen Welland and Peta Ashbrook helping on poolside.

Mount Charles Football/Rugby Socks
We now have a supply of Mount Charles Football/Rugby socks with the school’s name and logo on. They are black with cushioned soles and are available in sizes small and medium. We are selling them at cost price of £5 a pair. All the Junior children should have received a separate letter and order form this week. The school will make nothing from the sale of these socks. They are not just for the childen who represent the football and rugby teams, as they need black socks, but for any pupil who wants them. By wearing them for rugby and football lessons it will make keeping shin pads in place much easier and look a smart part of PE uniform. Please see Mr. B if you wish to buy a pair.
Newquay Gala Report
On Friday 3rd February our year 5 and 6 girls and boys swimming teams, who had previously qualified from the St.Austell area, travelled to Newquay to compete against seven other area winners in the Mid Cornwall area. Despite turning up late due to the weather and transport issues our children did us proud with the Year 5 girls, Year 6 girls and Year 6 boys all qualifying by finishing in the top two places on the day. Many thanks to Mrs.Meens for her help on poolside and to the parents/grandparents who gave up their time to come along and support the teams, we really do appreciate it. Thanks also to Helen Welland, Colin Williams, Mrs.Gray and Peta Ashbrook for helping to train the teams at Speed Swimming every Friday, it’s a real team effort. We now look forward to the County School Games Finals at Bude on Friday 30th June.
