Winter Weather Wondering

Those of you who enjoyed our Key Stage 2 Carol Concert this week may remember the children singing ‘Winter Weather Wondering’ (as composed by our very own Mr Douglas!)

The song has been recorded by all the choirs and singers who form part of Cornwall Music Hubs County Choirs.

On Thursday 8th December our Year 3 and 4 teams played friendly matches away against Biscovey. These were our first fixtures and all of our players were really enthusiastic and a credit to the school. They played four matches, winning two and losing two, so honours were even on the day. We now look forward to playing at Newquay Junior on Monday 9th January. Many thanks to Mrs.Gray and Mr.Smith, who helped with supervision and coaching on the day.

Teams: Max, Sophie, Stanley, Ethan, Corey, Tobi, Jake, Abi, Ellie, David, Phinneas, Phoebe, Isabelle, Toby, Ryan, Sam, Ethan, Sam, Maisie

On Thursday 17th November our Year 5 and 6 teams travelled to Truro to swim against Truro Prep and Devoran Schools in a friendly gala. The level of competition was really good as we often meet these schools at the Cornwall Games Gala finals. Our swimmers performed really well on the day and were a credit to the school. After 36 races, we achieved 7 x 1sts, 15 x 2nd’s and 14 x 3rd’. When all of the points were added up we finished second overall. This gala gives us a really good idea where we are in terms of our progress towards the St.Austell Gala and the Cornwall Games and our swimmers are certainly on track. Many thanks to Mrs.Gray, Helen Welland, Colin Williams and Matt Nile for their help on poolside.

Team: George, Adrian, Stanley, Jake, Lizzy, Jess, Eva, Leonne, Kieran, George, Owain, Finlay, Mea, Holly, Kelsey, Tilly.

The following Thursday (24th November) the Year 3 and 4 teams also went to Truro to swim against Truro Prep. We were really up against it on the day as Truro Prep had some very impressive Truro City swimmers, we finished second at the end of the twenty eight races but our children stuck at it and gained some valuable experience. For many of our team it was their first ever gala and they deserve great credit for their efforts. Many thanks to Mrs.Meens, Mrs.Gray and Helen Welland for their help on poolside and to those parents who travelled to Truro to support the team.

Team: Ellie, Lily, Olivia, Chelsea, Max, Ethan, Henry, Jai, Luke, Abi, Grace, Daisy, Isabelle, Kira, Jayden, Ethan, Tobi, Toby.

Netball (v St Mewan)

Netball Away against St Mewan 29th November

A team – George, Jude, Rodrigo, Lilyah (C), Lizzy, Gracie and Jasmine

Our A team played first and St. Mewan got off to a strong start with a superb shooter who gained them three goals! We went into the third quarter a few more goals down. The third quarter was our best quarter and although we couldn’t quite get the ball in the net, the A team were defending well and stopped St. Mewan from scoring any goals. Unfortunately, St Mewan managed to score a few more goals in the final quarter, meaning that they won the game. Player of the match goes to Lilyah. B team – Jess (C), Millie, Tilly, William, Denis, Dexter, Tineasha and Libby

The B team played next and again St. Mewan started well by scoring 3 goals. The B team were much stronger in the second and third quarters, where Libby and Denis managed to score a goal each. They were playing extremely well as a team and it meant that we went into the final quarter 3 -2 down. In the final quarter we had a few attempts at shooting but unluckily we didn’t manage to score any. However, St. Mewan managed to score a few more. The game ended as 7 – 2 to St. Mewan. Everyone kept their spirits up and there was a smile on their faces throughout the match. Player of the match goes to Denis.
