Cornwall Schools Cricket Finals
After qualifying through the Mid Cornwall Tournament our Year 5 team competed against the other top seven schools in the county at Truro Cricket Club on Friday 8th July.
In our league matches we made a great start with a win against St.Hilary School in a high scoring game. We then played a strong Connor Downs side and with two balls to go needed ten runs chasing their score but it was not to be and we lost. In our last league game the team had a convincing win against St.Stephen School. We were in with a chance of qualifying for the county final if St.Hilary beat Connor Downs in the last group match and in another close finish it went down to the very last ball with Connor Downs needing a six to tie. The very last ball was hit for a six which meant we missed out on the final and had to settle for the 3rd/4th play off against St. Just, which we won to finish third in Cornwall.
The team were excellent throughout the day, showing good team spirit and encouraging each other throughout. They bowled and fielded really well and with a little more work on our batting we will try again in Year 6 to get to that final. Jake was our top wicket taker with 6 wickets. Top run scorer and player of the tournament was our Captain, George, who scored 68 runs. A huge thank you to Mrs.Matthews, who helped supervise and support the children, and to Mrs.Billing, Mr.Brophy and Mr.Mc Auley for providing transport on the day. Thanks also to Jake’s grand parents for their support.

Monday 27th June – Year 4 Cricket Team
Mr Rees took the Year 4 cricket team to participate in the County Kwik Cricket qualifier. Many of the children were new to cricket and hadn’t played any pairs cricket. Led by the captain Kieran, they performed superbly winning three games and losing two. This meant that they were able to qualify for the county finals. Player of the Tournament was Kieran. With the most improved player being Connor.
Thursday 6th July – Year 4 Cricket County Finals
After qualifying for the finals, Mr Rees took the Year 4 team to the County Finals. It was clear after the first match that the standard had risen dramatically. However, our children rose to the challenge and competed excellently. We lost 6 and won 1 of our 7 games finishing 7th in the whole of the county. A fantastic achievement.
Player of the tournament – Freddie.
Most improved player – Treeve and Stanley.
