Theseus and the Minotaur

151218 Theseus & Minotaur - Bryn & Kian

Bryn and Kian were so inspired by their Literacy work based on the story of Theseus and the Minotaur that they produced this amazing picture of the Minotaur.

They chose to miss some of their lunchtimes to get the picture finished and were totally engrossed in the activity.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the visitors to this blog this year and wish you a very Merry Christmas.  We look forward to sharing even more work with you in 2016.

Hockey – Level 2 Tournament

After coming runners up in the first round of the hockey, the team were invited to play against the winners and runners up from the other areas of mid Cornwall. First up were St Petrocs. Mount Charles quickly scored goals from Harvey and Amelia. We were comfortable and on the attack for most of the game. We conceeded with a couple of minutes to go, setting up a nerve wracking final few minutes. But some fantastic defending from Sarah gave us the win. Next up were Gorran. We scored early again through Harvey and Ruben added a second. Gorran hit back with a goal and scored with moments remaining to snatch a draw. Some fantastic hockey all round. Our next opponents were Pondu who beat us in the previous tournament. We were quickly on the attack and scored 3 goals, all from Ruben, without Pondu threatening our goal. Pondu pulled one back. We scored another goal through Harvey we seal the game, with Pondu scoring a late goal. The final score was 4-2. After that game we knew a win would mean that we would win the whole tournament. We quickly scored goals through Ruben, Harvey and Millie to go 4-0 up. St Stephens pulled one back. The weather came in and everyone became soaked. This didn’t dampen their spirits with 2 further goals. This meant that, Mount Charles and Pondu go through to the school games finals in July. The children were fantastic, the weather was horrible, cold and wet, but this didn’t dampen their spirits or effect their superb play.

Players of the tournament: Sarah, Amelia and Captain Harvey.

Players: Connor, Denzil, Jez, Harvey, Ruben, Sophie, Kiera, Amelia, Sarah.

Away against Sandy Hill 1st December

A team – George (C), Aimee, Harvey, Isaac, Lydia, Amelia and Izzy

Our A team got off to a fantastic start with 5 goals from Harvey and 7 from Amelia. They all worked really well together and managed to defend extremely well. So we began the third quarter with a lead of 12 – 0. We managed to secure our lead with more goals from Isaac and George, who both worked extremely well with each other in the shooting third. Sandy Hill managed to fight back by scoring three goals. In the final quarter, Harvey scored two goals and Sandy Hill managed to score one more. The score ended as 18 – 3 to us, it was a well deserved win! Player of the match goes to Amelia, as she played all her positions extremely well.

B team – Jake (C), Lilly, Ryan, Jodie, Hollie, Jasmine, Amy and Leonnie

The B team had a great start and were working extremely well as a team. Lilly and Ryan managed to score three goals to secure the lead. Despite all their efforts, the second quarter remained goalless. Unfortunately, Sandy Hill got off to strong start in the third quarter by scoring a goal. However, in the final quarter Ryan managed to score two more goals, meaning that we won the match with a score of 5-1. Player of the match goes to Leonnie, for putting 100% into the whole game and continuing this enthusiasm by cheering on her team.

Home against Carclaze 8th December

A team – Isaac, Harvey (C), George, Aimee, Lydia, Amelia and Lilly

Carclaze have a great A team and gave us a tough start to the game. We went into the third quarter 6 – 0 down. We put up a good fight in the third quarter and George managed to score two goals. The final quarter remained goalless, leaving the final score as 6 – 2 to Carclaze. It was a well deserved win, they gave us a tough game: we just couldn’t quite get it in the net and needed to get in front of their super speedy and tall players. Player of the match goes to George.

B Team – Ryan, Courtney (C), Jake, Charlie, Eva, Hollie, Izzy and Jodie

This was an even matched game to begin with and both teams couldn’t quite get the ball into the net. In the second quarter, Carclaze managed to score two goals. We had a strong start to the third quarter with a goal from Jodie. However, Carclaze also managed to score one more goal. In the final quarter, we did a great job of moving the ball down the court but unfortunately we couldn’t get any goals in. This left the score as 3 – 1 to Carclaze. Player of the match goes to Jake, for working really well within the team.

Badminton

On Friday 4th December, Mr. Grigg took a group of year 4 children to a Badminton competition at Newquay Treviglas School. This was the second round of the competition and the winners of this round would go through to the School Games, next summer. We had qualified for this round by winning the competition at Poltair School and were feeling confident. The team for this round was Millie, Treeve and Freddie from 4LR and Ella, Katie and Harry B from 4SG. The year 4 competition is based on skills rather than games and involved lots of catching, batting and fitness work. Once again our team was excellent. They competed well and were a credit to Mount Charles School. Also, they all felt that their badmington skills improved. Congratluations go to all the team as they finished as winners again and have qualified for the School Games, to be held in Penzance next year. Well Done year 4!
