Harvest Celebration

Today the Juniors celebrated Harvest at Mount Charles Methodist Church in a service filled with facts about the history of the Harvest festival, poems, performances and songs.

Mrs Degenhardt worked with her trainee sous chefs, Natalie and Callum, to produce this wonderful harvest loaf.  Watch out Paul Hollywood – competition is on its way!

We have been collecting food for St Austell Foodbank and gathered over 1000 items – thank you to all the families for this outstanding generousity.  The food will be shared with families in need in the local area.  An extra well done to 5LF who collected the most food as a class!

We also found out about harvests in Africa and Year 5 have produced a recipe book which will be on sale at this year’s Christmas Fair to raise money to support their “quest to improve the harvest in Africa.”

Working and Playing Together

It seems hard to believe that we are just two weeks away from the half term holiday.  Where has all that time gone?

Things have certainly been busy again at the start of the year with the classes settling in well and doing lots of great work which I hope to show you on the website in the coming weeks.

There have even been a few trips already with Year 5 going to Heligan and also having a visit from the Vikings.  Year 6 have been to the woods in connection with their literacy work on Theseus and have had two introductory days at Penrice and Poltair.  Year 4 are off to Pendennis Castle and our Reception children are going to the woods soon too.

Over the half term we have been looking at how we behave around the school.  We started by thinking about moving around the school calmly, then pupils collected special tickets when they demonstrated good manners.  Last week pupils collected raffle tickets when they worked and played well in group situations – all the names (over 100) went into a draw and one lucky winner was selected to win a bag of goodies.  Well done to Amara in Year 5 for being this week’s lucky winner.  There will be another draw next week so we are encouraging all the pupils to carry on working and playing well together to be in with a chance to win!
