Year 6 have been looking at Fairtrade – a worldwide organisation.
When hard working and determined farmers produce goods such as chocolate, coffee and bananas come to sell these, sometimes the price they get goes down and they cannot even afford to live.
Fairtrade makes sure that the price they get stays the same. They are also working with the farmers to give them extra training (and even inviting them to the UK to find out more about chocolate production here).
There is also a “social premium” which gives the farmers a bit more money in order to make clean wells, new schools and help them to have a better life and to feed the global family.
We have to pay a little more for the Fairtrade products -do you think that it is worth it?
Do you try to buy Fairtrade products yourself?
